Tensions across the Gulf sharpened on Thursday after Israel claimed it had carried out a strike in Bandar Abbas, reportedly killing Commodore Alireza Tangsiri, the head of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
The Israeli air force said it had targeted an Iranian research centre responsible for developing submarines and unmanned marine vessels, part of a wave of strikes on the city of Isfahan. Iran has 18 submarines according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies think tank.
